Plead your case The big chains' policy change was primarily aimed at leisure travellers who make multiple simultaneous bookings before cancelling most at the last minute. Business travellers who miss a reservation due to unforeseen circumstances (weather delays, missed con- nections, etc.) may get a sym- pathetic ear from hotel staff. You may not get a full refund but hotel managers do have some discretionary power to reduce the penalty. Manage your manpower If you've booked hotel stays with restrictive policies, send out reminders prior to the cut off to ensure that travellers' plans haven't changed. Resell your reservations In the age of the Internet, it shouldn't come as a surprise that there's a resale market for unneeded hotel reservations. Sites such as CancelOn.com and RoomerTravel.com allow you to sell off unneeded rooms and coordinates all the arrangements for a percentage of what you sell the room for. For group events booked by December 31, 2018 and arriving on select dates through April 30, 2019*: 2018 dates still available.
