82 | Ignitemag.ca | November | December 2018 Join We're spreading the birthday joy the [ Party!! What is the secret of your success? It's all about the passion of the team and their commitment to helping the group achieve their goals. Year-to-date as of mid-September 2018, more than 85% of our valued group customers have scored the resort 9 or 10 out of 10 for Overall Event Experience. What challenges have you had to overcome? Being in a remote location is our greatest attribute because conference participants are able to focus on their objectives, networking with one another in an environment com- pletely unlike their usual day-to-day setting. This promotes fresh thinking and creativity and helps participants retain what they learn. Being in such a secluded location also means that our event planning team has become really creative in providing solutions that give groups a variety of on-site dining experiences and activities, thereby eliminating the need to arrange and pay for ground transportation. What's in store for the property? Our primary goal is always achieving high cus- tomer satisfaction. We'll continue to provide JW Marriott training, and to improve this lux- ury resort so that it is always stylish and beau- tifully maintained. In early 2017, Internet bandwidth capacity and speed were increased beyond what most Toronto hotels offer. Last year, a zip line and arboreal climbing activity were added. This past spring, a large-scale renovation was completed on the lobby, library, Muskoka Room, Living Room, Lakes Bar, public areas, games room and restau- rants. For summer 2018, an all-new inflatable adventure water park was installed. Next year, more outdoor experiential elements will be added. Every year, our goal is to build on our reputation as the most sought-after luxury resort conference destination in Ontario. I gnite isn't the only one celebrating a milestone this year. Every issue during our anniversary we'll highlight other industry properties and companies who are also blowing out some birthday candles! This month, the spotlight is on JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka in Minett, Ont., which turns ten this December. Leah Leslie, director of sales and marketing, reflects on the property's past success and future goals: How are you celebrating your anniversary? On the weekend of December 21 (the 22nd is the actual anniversary), the resort will have a festival of special events, including a concert, live entertainment, craft brewery tastings, a choco- late-making workshop, watercolour journaling and a wide range of wonderful winter activities. What achievements make you most proud? Hundreds of events have been held outdoors on the JW Marriott Lakeview Lawn. They've been visually stunning, with that gorgeous view and easy access to the lobby and guest rooms. However, one of our most impactful events happened when we brought the outdoors in! The client was Meeting Professionals International, Toronto chapter, for their Toronto Education Congress. Our Event Planning and Operations team created a Muskoka environment in the Rosseau Ballroom—canoes, up-lighting, light stencils and a forest of trees transformed the 6,300-sq.-ft. ballroom into a natural "outdoor" setting. A powerful drumming performance before dinner completed the experience. Is your company celebrating a milestone this year? We want to hear about it.
