Health Canada The government of Canada has announced the Canada Emergency Response Benefi t (CERB), that would provide $2,000 a month for up to four months for workers who lose their income as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CERB would be a simpler and more accessible combination of the previously announced Emergency Care Benefi t and Emergency Support Benefi t. The portal for accessing the CERB should be available in early April. Canada Revenue Agency will defer tax payments, owing on or after March 18 and before September 2020, until after August 31, 2020 to help businesses with cash fl ow. Eligible small businesses can receive a 10% wage subsidy for the next 90 days, up to a maximum of $1,375 per employee and $25,000 per employer. Emergency Funds Meetings Mean Business Canada is widely sharing a document prepared by the Canadian Payroll Association with essential tips for correctly completing Record of Employment forms regarding COVID-19 for staff who will need them for unemployment insurance benefi ts. Payroll Pointers The Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) has launched the Moira Hearn Memorial Bursary to provide fi nancial assistance to SITE members whose businesses suffer severe fi nancial diffi culties due to circumstances beyond their control. The bursary is named in honour of the late Moira Hearn, whose membership in SITE was characterised by an uncommon altruism and concern for others.
