There are a few blissful moments each morning, just as I'm stirring from sleep, where COVID-19 is not a part of my reality. And then it hits: the worry, uncertainty and sadness. These past six weeks have been extremely diffi cult and challenging, for our world, our industry and each and every individual on this planet. Hearing so many stories of livelihoods that have come to a screeching halt is heartbreaking. Ignite too has felt the wrath and impact of this global crisis, and as strong as I am, there have been moments of tears when it just felt like too much. But April 14 was different. I felt excited and hopeful as nearly 15,000 business event professionals from around the globe came together to celebrate Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID), in the fi rst-ever virtual GMID event. I had the pleasure of being involved with the creation of this initiative, and to see the passion and commitment to this industry from across the globe was truly uplifting and inspiring. Though we aren't yet through the crisis, GMID reminded me of the power, creativity and resilience of this industry that I so dearly love. I know, without hesitation, that we will come out the other side of this and rebuild— smarter and stronger than before. One day, we will wake in the morning and the pandemic will not stalk our thoughts. In the meantime, take time for yourself and enjoy time with family, and get excited for our industry's RISE!
