A c h i ev e + S u c c e e d you're happy at your job. Be clear that you're poking around not because you're ungrateful toward, or disgruntled with, your present employer, but because as a matter of course you keep your radar open for potential roles that may allow you to apply your expertise, leverage your skills and expand your horizons. What if my current employer discovers it? Same advice. Be honest in explaining that you're simply keeping your options open, with no negative impact on the commitment to your current role. Additionally, don't use the discovery as false leverage to request a raise or promotion— though do be prepared to have an open conversation about it. If the topics of stretch assignments, increased responsibility or pay increase come up, engage in a direct and gracious way. Who knows what might result? Be honest in explaining that you're simply keeping your options open, with no negative impact on the commitment to your current role. 64 | Ignitemag.ca | Spring 2023
