64 | Ignitemag.ca | November | December 2014 There's more than a trace of nostalgia in a train journey, given our fast-paced, plugged-in lifestyles that move at the speed of light. Two options on opposite sides of the country promise a voyage of discovery and a way of travel that hasn't changed—too much—over the last century. TAKETHETRAIN QUEBEC { FLAIR } Photo middle on left: Olivier Staub TAKETHETRAIN incentive travel report Pulling out from the terminus at Montmorency Falls just outside of Quebec City, Le Massif de Charlevoix is a beautiful rail journey along the sweeping landscapes of the St. Lawrence River. From mid-June to October, the train follows the riverbank to Baie-St.-Paul, stops for three hours, then continues to La Malbaie. A group program can either buy a singular rail car or buy out the whole train. iPADs on the tables in the retro'tted Pullman rail cars relate the historical background of signi'cant points as you glide along the rails, all while enjoying meals created by the chef of Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu. Most of the ingredients on the plates are locally sourced from the Charlevoix terroir. The award-winning H£tel Le Ferme, a labour of love from the one of the partners that brought Cirque du Soleil to life, is the 'rst stop of the rail journey and groups are welcomed to this mod- ern riˆ of a hotel on the former farm property where the town convent used to raise cattle. The hotel is incentive-worthy on its own, espe- cially during winter, when skiing at Le Massif, the highest elevation east of the Rockies, is covered in snow. More than 52 trails challenge all levels of skill. Even then, a train takes skiers in a 40-min- ute shuttle from the hotel to the base of the mountain. lemassif.com Highlights of the Charlevoix Taste Trail: Laiterie Charlevoix La Ferme Basque Boulangerie Meunerie la Remy
