June | July 2015 | Ignitemag.ca | 3 just sayin' ALL TOGETHER NOW! Collaboration. It's a buzzword that's showing up every- where in business blogs and keynote speeches. But it isn't a concept that's new to the meetings and events industry. Planners know that, in many cases, two heads are indeed better than one. Sure, it's a competitive environ- ment, but attendee experience is what matters—and a group effort is often the only way to make it the absolute best it can be. That's why it's not unusual for a planner to call a colleague to pitch in on volunteer coordination or for companies to share their decor inventory with each other. Look at CanSPEP, for example. Here's a group of plan- ners who are often up for the same gigs, but they bind together to promote the meetings and events business and each other. They know that a healthy industry is good for everyone. We took a page from their book when we co-located the Ignite Business Event Expo with CSE Live! in April. We know our collaboration raised a few eyebrows since the two shows are technically competitors. But after lots of thoughtful discussions, it became clear that a partnership would offer lots of benefits for both shows—and attendees. If you're one of the 885 planners who attended, we hope you agree! Turn to page 55 to read more. And if you took part in other Canada Meet Week events thrown by our various industry partners, you'll see even further evidence of the power of collaboration to achieve great things. are technically competitors.
