72 | Ignitemag.ca | June | July 2015 Canada Oh Canada Nestled in the Golden Horseshoe betwixt Toronto and Niagara, Hamilton is experiencing a renaissance with a renovation surge to historic downtown buildings and a blossoming of the downtown core. The rejuvenated James Street North District features a vari- ety of small art galleries, cafés and interesting retail outlets to keep the urban vibe hip without pretention. The city recently hosted The 2015 JUNO Awards, and will welcome the soccer players for the Pan Am & Parapan American Games this summer. The centrally located Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmen's is phasing in upgrades to the facility which includes refreshing decor in foyers and lobbies and installing special effects lighting in the Wentworth ballroom and LED up lights in lobby areas and ballrooms. Special event venues such as LIUNA Station—a renovated heritage train station—can accommodate large groups of up to 700 in the Grand Central ballroom. Two other ballrooms and the Grand Lobby resplendent with Italian marble and Art Deco architecture transport guests to a bygone era. The gothic ambiance of the Scottish Rite Club—a century old mansion—is an extraordinary space with magnificent woodwork and architecturally stunning spaces, such as the Round Room or The Scottish Rite Cathedral, complete with a historical Casavant pipe organ and stage tapestry backdrops.
